Pin Header Selection
2.54 mm Pin Header Selection Guide
Choose a 2.54 mm pin header by row count, mounting direction, insulator height, pin length and mating clearance. The pitch alone is not enough to quote or confirm a replacement.

Where 2.54 mm pin headers are used
Application suitability still depends on current, voltage, temperature, vibration, mating cycles and the approved drawing.
Start with these five decisions
| Decision | Options | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Rows | Single, dual or triple | PCB footprint and mating connector |
| Mounting | Straight DIP, right angle, vertical SMT or horizontal SMT | Mating direction and enclosure clearance |
| Positions | Cut length or fixed pin count | Total pins per row |
| Height | Insulator and mating height | Board spacing and insertion depth |
| Terminal | Square or round pin; tin or gold plating | Current, mating cycles and soldering process |

Use the PDF drawing to confirm insulator height, mating length, solder-tail length and PCB footprint before approving a sample.
Common RFQ mistakes
- Sending only “2.54 mm pin header” without rows, positions or mounting style.
- Using overall pin length when the drawing requires mating length and solder-tail length separately.
- Ignoring PCB thickness, female-header insertion depth or enclosure clearance.
- Requesting gold plating without specifying the plated area or thickness.
What to send for quotation
Provide the product number when it matches the catalog. For a replacement or modified height, send the drawing, PCB footprint, mating connector, quantity and required plating.
Send an RFQ
Send the product number, drawing or sample photos with quantity and application details.
